POTATODEV questions

Short, plain answers about mining, rewards, the training fund and the token.

What is POTATODEV?

POTATODEV is a browser GPU mining OS on Robinhood Chain. You open PotatoDev OS in a tab, choose to mine, and your GPU hashes proof-of-work shares through WebGPU. Accepted work is tallied per daily epoch, 80% of each epoch's reward budget is split among miners by work, and 20% goes to a training fund contract that pays for open AI training runs.

How does POTATODEV work?

The coordinator gives your payout address a challenge seed. Your GPU searches for nonces whose SHA-256 hash starts with enough zero bits, and the coordinator checks each one with a single hash. When an epoch closes, a keeper publishes a Merkle root of every wallet's share to the harvest book contract. After a one-day veto window anyone can send the claim, and the tokens go to the address in the tree.

Does mining start on its own?

No. Nothing runs on your GPU or CPU until you tick the consent box and press start. Idle mining is a separate switch that only exists after you have opted in, and even then it stops the moment you touch the page. Mining pauses while the tab is hidden, and on battery unless you turn that pause off. The taskbar shows a stop button for as long as any work is running.

How do I buy $POTATODEV?

$POTATODEV is not trading yet. At launch it will trade first on the Pons launchpad on Robinhood Chain, and the contract address will appear in the taskbar, on the token page and in the market window, all from one place. Buy only from the address published there.

Which network is POTATODEV on?

Robinhood Chain mainnet, chain id 4663, with ETH for gas. Connecting a wallet adds the network for you. Mining itself needs no gas and no signature; only claims and purchases are transactions.

Can I mine on a phone or a laptop on battery?

You can, but it is rarely worth it. A phone hashes far slower than a desktop GPU and gets warm doing it. On battery the miner pauses by default; you can change that in settings.

Will I earn a fixed amount?

No, and nobody can promise one. Each epoch has a fixed budget, split by everyone's accepted work. The more total work, the smaller each share of it. Electricity is yours to pay, so mining can cost more than it returns.

Who controls the money?

Rewards sit in the harvest book contract until claimed, and a claim can only pay the address written in the epoch's Merkle tree. The keeper key can post a wrong root; the owner has one day to veto it before claims open. The owner can withdraw reward tokens that were never assigned to an epoch, never ones already posted. The training fund pays a run only after it has been announced on-chain for two days. The owner address is written into both contracts at deployment and can never be transferred or renounced.

Does my GPU train a shared AI model?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. A browser cannot prove it computed honest gradients, so shared training from tabs is not trustworthy today. What you can do now is train a small model locally in sprout.exe, and follow the training fund, which pays for runs on rented hardware with every payment recorded on Robinhood Chain.
